We all need publicity and it doesn’t matter if you are a speaker, coach, fitness expert or a chef. You want to appear as the authority in your field and a good source of continuing news content for journalist. Publicity is what helps you boost your credibility.

And wouldn’t it be nice each time you get ready to speak at a event or your getting ready to launch a new course you could get interviews on the radio, podcast shows or even television? When you become recognized as an authority, members of the media will be more willing to run your press releases and do your stories.

Print media is still very influential. People tend to talk about social media, social influence and so forth online. Sometimes we can lose sight of the fact that there is a real world out there with print media, like newspapers and magazines as well as podcasts, radio and television.

Being able to appear in any of these media realms gives you instant credibility you simply cannot get through social media. Advertising in the media can be quite expensive and very high end. It is possible to increase your credibility and  reach the right markets for FREE. This is what you want to do.

Send Out Press  Releases

The purpose of a press release is to get attention, make news, and generate publicity. A concisely written and targeted, press release draws media attention to newsworthy events.  It’s cost effective marketing (FREE) and they (press releases) can be used to create brand awareness. You want to write press releases to catch journalists’attention, which will hopefully result in a widely read or viewed story that enhances your image. It definitely will establish you as an expert in your field and get you plenty of free exposure.

Now when you’re sending out press releases, make sure that you have an attention grabbing headline. You want to stand out from all other press releases that the journalists get daily. Now there are plenty of press release sites on the Internet where you can submit your press releases to. Remember, the internet is your friend. Now make sure that once you do submit your press release to follow up with the media. There’s a site called HARO www.haro.com and sign up with them and promote your press releases on social media sites.  And HARO stands for help a reporter out, and they’re always looking for stories for the media.

All social media sites, be at LinkedIn or Facebook, Instagram, or wherever. And don’t get weary and upset. If you send out your press releases and you don’t see any payoff for days, weeks, or months. As long as you keep being consistent, and offering newsworthy stories and expert help in your niche, continuous effort will get rewarded.

Become An Authority In Your Field

Be someone in your niche/field who the media turns to for quotes, to answer questions, to explain information to their audience and so forth. In other words you want to provide value. You want to be seen by your ideal clients, customers and community as being of value to them.

You don’t have to be seen as the #1 expert globally to be an Authority. You just need an audience who values what you do and sees you as the Authority for them. That’s where specialisation can help.

And be transparent too. Be honest about what you know and what you don’t.

Be The Subject Of A Newsworthy Story

Journalist are looking for stories all of the time. In order for your story to be newsworthy it must be timely and relevant. Talk about an upcoming event you have. Let’s say that you have a provocative, or controversial product, service, or speech that’s worthy of being news, or your business is holding an event to raise money for a worthy cause. This is something that the press would consider as being newsworthy.

Get On Podcasts And TV Interviews

There are 250,000 active podcasts and growing. People are always looking for experts to come on their podcast and tv shows. The interviewers have airtime that they need to fill and are always on the lookout for interesting topics.Podcasts/TV interviews let you build stronger relationships with listeners. There is no payment for appearing on these channels. Usually you go on a podcast/TV interview to promote a book, a webinar or to get speaking engagements. You are a guest on the show. The audience/following of the podcast host and exposure to them is the payment.

Target local or national tv stations and podcast shows that
cater to your market. Once you contact them you will need to convince them why you would be a candidate for a ratings grabbing interview. If you do a good job of convincing them they will want to contact you and find out more about you.

Write A Book

Writing a book is a great way to get publicity and market your book at the same time. If you want to stand out from the crowd, writing a book will give you authority, credibility and expertise. Media still remains a proven vehicle for promoting and selling books. When a media outlet wants a comment on something, who do they go to? The expert, right? And how do they know someone is an expert? Because they wrote the book. Experts write books.
